We recommend that you wait until you arrive in Thailand before you exchange your currency into Thai Baht. You will always get a better rate of exchange in Thailand than in your home country. All the major airports have Exchange Counters so there is no need to travel with Thai currency.
ATM machines are widely available . The maximun daily withdrawal is Baht 20000 or equivalent. Banks are open Mon - Fri 8:30am - 3:30pm. Some Banks, especially in shopping centres, are open on Saturday mornings. Cheques are rarely used but the use of Credit Cards is widespread. Travellers Cheques are usually accepted. Note that Taxi & Tuk Tuk drivers and some small corner type shops may have difficulty in changing 500 and 1000 Baht notes so always try to carry some small denomination notes or loose change.
Whilst it is possible for Non-Thais to open a Bank Savings Account, some Banks impose certain restrictions and conditions which vary from time to time. Indeed, Branches of the same Bank may have different requirements. A visa of some description will be essential. If your application is turned down, don't be put off, keep trying at different Banks.
